ABOUT THE CREATOR

Hi, my name is Brooklyn and I have been dancing for three years now. Ballet has been a lifelong dream of mine that I continue to pursue and find interest in. Originally, this website was created for my final project in my class on Victorian Europe. However, as my research dug deeper into the nitty gritty of this heinous topic, I decided that creating this website was not a simply something I wanted to do, but something I feel morally obligated to do as well. My hope for this website is to provide more centralized research for future historians, as well as the enthused balletomanes and interested third parties of the world, to sift through as a jumping off point for their own research into this time period. Unfortunately, while many books have been written on the history of the famous sculpture by Edgar Degas, Little Dancer of Fourteen Years, there remains a large gap in academic and public literature regarding this period in ballet and societal culture. It is important to me that this important piece of ballet history is not forgotten or ignored, but rather used as a opening towards the overall discussion of the modernization of ballet, which has historically exploited, demeaned, and minimized the plights of dancers in the pursuit of perfecting an art form.
